Coastal Deep Hole

On December 20th we headed about 15 miles down the coast to Deep Hole (one of my favorite's). Deep Hole is not only great for hunting but also photography and sightseeing. Deep Hole is more like what the islands used to look like as there is much less pressure from divers and fishing there. The only problem with Deep Hole is it is much more weather dependent. On this day we started out at Sea Fans in an area about 80-85 ft deep. Some of the better diving at deep Hole is 70'-120'. Sea Fans has lots of different colored sea fans and some large fish such as sheephead, calico, barred sand bass and lingcod. The structure is large rocks and boulders with some small walls. Our 2nd dive was at newly named "Sweet Spot" by Thomas (17 years old) who caught 6 bugs here. This area is about 65'-70' with more bugs and smaller fish. The reef was about the same with large rocks. Our 3rd dive was at a new spot that had smaller reefs with sand between them. There was lots of small critters here and it was a good spot for photos. This spot was about 40'-45' ft deep. All 3 dives had vis from 15'-25' and the water was low to mid 50's. The topside conditions were nice, but it was cold. After 3 good dives and some limits of lobsters we were back at the dock by 3:30pm.
